Ghana has officially named a 40-member team to represent the nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which get underway on Thursday, July 23, across Scotland and Wales.
The Ghanaian contingent will compete in athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, swimming, weightlifting, para athletics, para powerlifting, and para swimming, as the country aims to make a strong impression at the multi-sport event.
Leading Team Ghana is 200m sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah, who has been named captain of the delegation. Tahiru Haruna will serve as Ghana’s baton bearer, while judoka Frema has been selected to carry the national flag during the opening ceremony.
A total of 72 nations and territories are expected to participate in this year’s Commonwealth Games, which will be staged over 11 days. Athletes from across the Commonwealth will battle for honours in 215 medal events, making it one of the biggest sporting spectacles on the international calendar.
With a blend of experienced competitors and emerging talent across several disciplines, Team Ghana will be hoping to deliver memorable performances and add to the nation’s proud history at the Commonwealth Games.
