Weija-Gbawe, Ghana – In a landmark move to enhance healthcare delivery in the constituency, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, officially performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a new Emergency Block at the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital, popularly known as Akawe Hospital.
The ceremony, attended by the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Director of Health, community leaders, healthcare professionals, media personnel, and local residents, marks the beginning of a major upgrade in emergency healthcare services in the municipality.

In his address, Hon. Shaib emphasized the critical role of the hospital as the first point of care for residents from Weija, Gbawe, Tetegu, Oblogo, Kasoa, and surrounding areas. He highlighted the urgent need for an expanded emergency facility to relieve congestion in the existing wards and improve patient outcomes.

“The Emergency Block will include a 25-bed male ward, a 25-bed female ward, a recovery ward, consulting rooms, a fully equipped laboratory, pharmacy, administrative offices, and an ambulance bay,” Hon. Shaib noted. “This facility is a commitment to both the healthcare workers who serve tirelessly and the community that depends on them in moments of greatest need.”
Hon. Shaib also expressed gratitude to partners, stakeholders, and community leaders for their support, and called for continued collaboration to ensure timely completion of the project. He reminded the community of the recently completed Weija-Gbawe Children’s Hospital and emphasized the need for its commissioning to serve the people effectively.
The new Emergency Block is expected to transform emergency care delivery in the constituency, ensuring faster triage, better patient management, and a dignified environment for those in need of urgent medical attention.
