The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has reaffirmed the need to support and empower women in politics, stressing that their contributions to national development must be acknowledged and rewarded.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the lawmaker highlighted the significant role women play in society and governance, describing them as hardworking and supportive partners in national progress.
According to him, women have consistently demonstrated their ability to lead and contribute meaningfully to decision-making processes and should therefore be given equal opportunities in political leadership.
“Women have always been supportive and hardworking, and it’s time they are given equal opportunities to participate in governance,” he stated.
The Weija Gbawe MP also praised women serving in Parliament and within communities across the country for their commitment to their families and national development. He further acknowledged the dedication of women in his personal life, including his wife and mother, describing them as pillars of strength.
The Deputy Mi nority Chief Whip, encouraged women to continue striving for excellence and competing confidently with their male counterparts in all fields.
He also acknowledged the numerous challenges women face in politics, including societal expectations and stereotypes. However, he urged them not to allow such obstacles to discourage them from pursuing their ambitions.
“Women have proved themselves capable, and it’s time their efforts are recognised and rewarded,” he said.
Mr Shaib concluded by calling for collective action to promote inclusivity and support women aspiring to enter public service.
“We need more women in politics, and we must support them every step of the way,” he added.
