Transport Minister pledges to resolve operational challenges at Jamestown fishing harbour

Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has assured that the government will address the operational challenges hampering the full functionality of the Jamestown Fishing Harbour to enhance Ghana’s fisheries sector and support coastal communities.

The harbour, commissioned under a previous administration, has experienced delays due to missing critical infrastructure required for effective operations. During a joint site inspection with officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Minister Nikpe emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving these issues.

“The project is facing several challenges that are hampering its full operationalisation. We are committed to addressing these challenges so the harbour can operate efficiently,” Minister Nikpe stated.

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, added that operationalizing the harbour is key to strengthening Ghana’s fisheries sector and improving the livelihoods of coastal communities. The inspection highlights the government’s focus on improving infrastructure and support systems for key economic sectors, particularly fisheries.
