IGP deploys additional team, armoured vehicle to Nkwanta to reinforce police presence

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed an additional specialized police operations team and a multi-purpose armoured vehicle to Nkwanta Municipality in the Oti Region.

The deployment, which arrived in the municipality on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, is intended to reinforce the existing police presence and support joint police-military operations in the area.

A press release issued by the Oti Regional Police Command said the additional personnel and equipment form part of efforts by the security agencies to protect lives and property, safeguard public safety, and sustain peace in the municipality.

The deployment comes as joint security forces continue operations aimed at maintaining law and order in Nkwanta.

The Police have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as the operations continue.

The public has also been encouraged to volunteer credible information to assist the security agencies while refraining from actions that could undermine their work.

“Public cooperation remains essential to maintaining peace, security, and stability in Nkwanta,” the statement said.
