General Corporal Robert Katey Koranteng has been charged with murder over the death of Central University law student Ivan Apprey Baidoo following a motorbike crash on the Tema Motorway.
Koranteng was arraigned at the Adabraka District Court in Accra on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. He is accused of unlawfully causing Baidoo’s death through harm under Section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The prosecution alleges that Koranteng pursued a Yango motorbike carrying Baidoo after the rider allegedly ran a red light at the UPSA traffic intersection.
During the pursuit, which continued onto the Tema Motorway, the officer allegedly kicked the motorbike after the Old Tollbooth. The rider reportedly lost control and crashed into a concrete barrier.
Prosecutors further allege that Koranteng left without arranging immediate medical assistance.
Baidoo was taken to the Tema General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, while the rider, Samuel Wesley Arthur, was treated and discharged.
A postmortem conducted on September 3 attributed Baidoo’s death to haemorrhagic shock caused by blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen.
The Homicide Unit took over the investigation on September 8, and Koranteng was arrested on September 12.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau is separately investigating his conduct.
