TUC demands withdrawal of Regional Tribunals Bill from Parliament.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Tribunals Bill 2026 from Parliament, arguing that the proposed legislation could undermine public confidence in the country’s justice system.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday July 16, the Secretary-General of the TUC, Joshua Ansah, said the labour union is opposed to the re-introduction of regional and district tribunals.

He argued the re-establishment of these tribunals would bring back painful memories.

“The TUC is saying the Regional Tribunals must be expunged from the Constitution. The TUC is manifestly opposed to resuscitating tribunals given our bitter experience with our history,” he said.

According to Mr. Ansah, the TUC had separately deliberated on and consulted widely on the Tribunals Bill, noting that the group’s memorandum to the Constitution Review Committee in paragraph 14 indicated that the tribunals were not relevant.

The TUC further urged President John Dramani Mahama and Parliament to halt the legislative process and instead focus on strengthening the existing judiciary.

“Government must halt the current legislative process enacting the Tribunals Bill, expunge tribunals from the Constitution, and take meaningful steps to resource the judiciary,” Mr. Ansah added.

The Secretary General of the TUC also expressed disappointment in the government’s failure to publish the full report of the Constitution Review Committee before initiating any action relating to the committee’s recommendations.
