A federal judge has released a note purportedly written by Jeffrey Epstein that had been sealed for years as part of the criminal case involving his former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione. The note was discovered by Tartaglione in a graphic novel following an apparent suicide attempt by Epstein in July 2019.
The note begins with the statement, “They investigated me for month — FOUND NOTHING!!!” and includes the phrases, “Bust out cryin!!” and “NO FUN, NOT WORTH IT!!”

Epstein survived the initial suicide attempt but later died at age 66 in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan. Tartaglione, a former police officer awaiting trial for a quadruple murder, provided the note to his lawyers, believing it could be relevant to his legal defense. He is currently serving four life sentences and has appealed his conviction.
The note became part of a legal dispute among Tartaglione’s attorneys and was placed under seal to protect attorney-client privilege. The release followed a petition by The New York Times to unseal the document. Prosecutors did not object to its publication, citing public interest in the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death.
The New York City medical examiner ruled Epstein’s death a suicide. Security lapses at the jail have fueled ongoing public scrutiny and speculation regarding the circumstances of his death.
