Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has justified the country’s decision not to sign a proposed health agreement with the United States, stating that government is prioritising domestic investment and strategic partnerships.
According to the Minister, Ghana is deliberately shifting away from dependence on external support towards a more self-reliant and sustainable health financing model.
He emphasised that government is increasing investment in key areas such as vaccines and public health, noting that expenditure has grown significantly—from thousands to tens of millions of dollars.
Mr. Akandoh stressed that funding the country’s health sector remains a top priority, describing it as essential to achieving true health sovereignty.
He added that Ghana remains open to partnerships but insists such collaborations must align with the country’s long-term health priorities and development goals.
