One hundred and fifty students from communities within the operational areas of Gold Fields Ghana Limited have benefited from the Gold Fields Foundation Scholarship to pursue university education.
The initiative forms part of the company’s continued investment in education and youth development in its host communities.
The scholarship comes as Gold Fields Ghana Limited continues to support development initiatives in communities within its operational catchment areas.
Each beneficiary will receive 10,500 Ghana cedis, comprising 9,500 cedis for educational expenses and 1,000 cedis as a stipend during their studies.
Despite speculations surrounding the renewal of the company’s mining leases, Gold Fields says it remains committed to its host communities.
The company has invested more than 100 million US dollars in transformative projects, benefiting over 6,000 community members.
Sustainability Development Manager, Community Relations at Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Robert Siaw, emphasized the Foundation’s scholarship programme is part of efforts to invest in the youth in communities where the company operates.
Speaking as Chairman for the occasion, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology, Professor Bernard Kumi Boateng, commended the Gold Fields Foundation for the timely support to students pursuing higher education.
Vice President of Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Dr. Celestina Allotey, noted that the scholarship also places emphasis on supporting more young girls from the company’s host communities, reflecting the growing participation and success of young women in tertiary education.
The scholarship recipients are expected to use the support to pursue their studies successfully and build the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the development of their communities.
