Two persons have been arrested following the seizure of 692 parcels of suspected Indian hemp during a snap-check operation at Dawhenya in the Prampram Division.
The suspects, identified as Godwin Asigeh, the driver of the vehicle, and Freeman Amedoku, his assistant, were arrested after police intercepted an Accra-bound Ford Transit vehicle with registration number GT 6140-22.
The operation was conducted at about 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The Police, in a statement, said a search of the vehicle uncovered 692 parcels of suspected Indian hemp wrapped in yellow polythene bags.
The suspects, the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substance were subsequently conveyed to the Devtraco Police Station.
The Police said the substance has been retained as an exhibit, while the vehicle has been impounded. The two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
The Tema Regional Police Command commended the officers who carried out the operation, saying, “The Command highly commend the arresting officers who undertook the operation.”
The Command further assured the public that it would intensify its efforts to combat the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the region.
It said it “assures the public that it will intensify efforts to prevent the trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the region.”
