The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy has been cancelled and that parents and guardians have been directed to pay GH¢1,500 for chop boxes and trunks.
The GES described the publication as false and urged the public to disregard it.
In a release issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the GES stressed that neither the Free SHS policy had been cancelled nor had the Director-General issued any directive requiring parents or guardians to pay for chop boxes, trunks, or any other items.
“The Director-General of GES does not have the power to cancel a policy,” the statement further clarified.
The GES consequently advised parents, guardians, students, and members of the public not to make any payments to anyone on the basis of the circulating publication.
The Service urged the public to rely only on official communications issued through its authorized channels and to treat unverified information circulating on social media with caution.
It also appealed to members of the public and media organizations to desist from creating, publishing, or circulating false information capable of causing unnecessary anxiety and confusion among parents, students, and the general public.
