The Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga in the Upper East Region, Billa Nikyema Alamzy, together with the District Chief Executive for Kassena-Nankana West, Stephen Akurugo, have commissioned several key development projects in the district.
The projects commissioned include:A newly constructed maternity block with medical equipment at Mirigu,A mechanized borehole at Sirigu Senior High School, A renovated primary school and staff quarters at Bugsongo, A newly built Junior High School at Dazongo
As a gesture of appreciation, the Chief and people of Wugingo in Sirigu presented beautifully designed smocks to both the MP and the DCE.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nikyema Billa Alamzy disclosed that he has filed parliamentary questions on the persistent electricity and water challenges facing the Sirigu community and the entire District Kassena Nankana West.
He pledged to wear the gifted smock when those questions are tabled on the floor of Parliament.
The MP and DCE also inspected the collapsed Mayoro/Nafi bridge which has cut off about 5 to 7 communities in 23rd March 2022, which serves as an alternative route to Bolgatanga and neighboring country Burkina Faso.
Alamzy revealed that the previous government failed to fix the bridge after it collapsed .
However, he assured residents that reconstruction will soon begin.
Speaking to the Media, the DCE Stephen Akurugo commended the NDC government for the regular release of the District Assembly Common Fund to MMDAs.
For his part, the NDC government has regularly invested 80% of the District Assembly Common Fund to the District Assembly.
He noted that every MMDA is making good use of the money in accordance with the guidelines.
The DCE also thanked the President, Sector Minister, Regional Minister, and District Assembly staff for their role in supervising and executing the projects successfully.
