France captain Kylian Mbappé has retained the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot after finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals.
The Real Madrid forward secured the award despite France’s third-place finish, scoring twice in a dramatic 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place playoff to move clear of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who ended the tournament with eight goals after failing to score in the World Cup final against Spain.
Mbappé becomes the first player to win the Golden Boot at two FIFA World Cups, having also claimed the award at the 2022 tournament.
Norway’s Erling Haaland and England midfielder Jude Bellingham finished with seven goals each, while England captain Harry Kane and France winger Ousmane Dembélé scored six goals apiece.
Meanwhile, newly crowned world champions Spain dominated the tournament’s individual honours following their 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the final.
Midfielder Rodri was named Player of the Tournament, while teenage defender Pau Cubarsí won the Young Player of the Tournament award.
Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón received the Golden Glove after conceding just one goal throughout the competition.
Forward Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time to hand Spain its second FIFA World Cup title.
