The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted five million tramadol tablets valued at an estimated GH¢100 million at the Accra International Airport.
The Commission said three people have been arrested in connection with the importation following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a shipment suspected to contain the prohibited pharmaceutical products.
In a Facebook post on Friday, July 17, NACOC said the seizure forms part of its intensified efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and protect public health and national security.
According to preliminary investigations, the consignment was intended for distribution within Ghana and may also have been destined for other countries in the West African sub-region.
The Commission believes the intercepted shipment is linked to a larger drug trafficking network and said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects connected to the operation.
NACOC disclosed that the seized tramadol tablets have been secured to support ongoing forensic and documentary investigations.
It reiterated its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice.
