The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has urged Ghanaian workers to abandon attitudes of indifference towards their jobs and embrace commitment, loyalty, and professionalism.

Speaking at the opening of the 2026 National Labour Conference in Ho, Togbe Afede XIV said improving workplace attitudes is critical to boosting productivity and accelerating Ghana’s economic growth.

He criticised the mindset among some workers that suggests a lack of ownership of their responsibilities, popularly expressed as “it’s not my father’s work.”

The Chairman of the conference stressed that every task performed at the workplace contributes to personal development, noting that workers gain not only financial rewards but also knowledge and experience.

Togbe Afede XIV also raised concerns that some employers are increasingly relying on foreign workers due to perceptions of poor work ethic and low productivity among some Ghanaian employees.

He called for stronger collaboration between government, employers, labour unions, and workers to promote discipline, honesty, and professionalism.

The three-day conference is being held under the theme: “Strengthening Industrial Harmony as a Catalyst for Accelerated Economic Growth and National Development.”
