Accra,Ghana — The Ghana Police Service has arrested four students from the Ada Senior High Technical School (SHTS) following a violent confrontation on campus that was captured in a viral social media video.
The widely shared footage showed a student openly brandishing a cutlass and issuing targeted threats against peers. This sparked immediate public outrage and raised urgent security concerns among parents and school authorities.
The Tema Regional Police Command intervened swiftly after the video began circulating across online platforms. Preliminary investigations reveal that the armed standoff stemmed from a localised dispute between the students over a missing school uniform.
The argument quickly escalated. One student armed himself with a machete to intimidate others before bystanders filmed the incident.
Police updates confirm that four suspects are currently in custody. Investigators are working alongside school administrators to determine the full extent of the altercation.
Following the arrests, the police administration issued a stern public advisory targeting second-cycle institutions across the country. The statement urged students to utilize internal grievance channels, school authorities, and counseling units to resolve personal disagreements. It heavily condemned the use of weapons, violence, and intimidation to settle disputes.
This incident highlights a growing concern regarding student discipline and safety within senior high schools in Ghana. Over the past year, several second-cycle institutions have reported pockets of campus disturbances, vandalism, and clashes over minor disputes.
Educational stakeholders and parent-teacher associations (PTAs) have consistently called for stricter enforcement of school regulations and enhanced security protocols.
