Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed claims that Members of Parliament who supported other flagbearer aspirants during the party’s presidential primaries are being targeted.
Addressing the Minority Caucus ahead of Parliament’s resumption, Dr. Bawumia cautioned party executives and supporters against any attempt to remove sitting MPs in his name.
“I will continue to say and do. I don’t see any faction amongst us. I only see NPP. I don’t see a Kennedy Agyapong faction, a Bryan Acheampong faction, or an Adutwum faction. We are all one together,” he stated.
His remarks follow recent claims by Ejisu MP Kwabena Boateng that his parliamentary seat was under threat because of his support for Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP flagbearer race.
The allegation has fueled concerns about possible divisions within the party after the highly contested presidential primaries.
Dr. Bawumia however rejected suggestions of victimization, insisting that the party must remain united ahead of future political contests.
“So I promise you that I will not be in any situation where I am going to push for the removal of an MP because he didn’t support me. I will never do that,” he added.
He emphasized the need for reconciliation within the NPP and urged party faithful to avoid actions that could deepen internal cracks.
The former Vice President reiterated that all party members, regardless of the candidates they supported during the primaries, remain important to the NPP’s future electoral fortunes.
