The Wa High Court has sentenced a man described by police as a serial killer to life imprisonment after he admitted to multiple murders across parts of northern Ghana.
The convict, Shariff Abdulai, also known as Christos, was sentenced on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, for the murder of 22-year-old Issah Yahaya.
In a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, the convict pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before the High Court.
“On Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the High Court in Wa sentenced Shariff Abdulai, alias Christos, to imprisonment for life for the murder of Issah Yahaya, 22 years,” the statement said.
Police further revealed that during the trial, Abdulai admitted responsibility for a series of killings in different communities.
“The convict pleaded guilty to killing sixteen people in Wa, five in Bole and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi,”
According to police, Abdulai was arrested on October 6, 2025, following what authorities described as sustained intelligence-led operations.The accused was first committed by a District Magistrate Court before being arraigned before the High Court where he again pleaded guilty.
Presiding judge, Justice Oscar-William Atwi, subsequently sentenced him to life imprisonment with hard labour.
Police say Abdulai will serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.The police command also reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety.
