Opinion: Dr. Hassan Ayariga on Ghana’s Independence!!

Dr. Alhaji Hassan Ayariga, leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), has suggested that Ghanaians adopt a tradition of reducing the prices of goods and services by half on Independence Day as a way of celebrating the nation.

According to him, businesses and service providers in Ghana could mark Ghana Independence Day by:
• Cutting prices of goods by 50%
• Offering discounted services
• Encouraging people to buy Ghanaian products
• Creating a festive economic atmosphere for citizens

Dr. Ayariga argues that:
• Many Ghanaians struggle financially, so lower prices would allow more people to celebrate.
• It would make Independence Day practical and beneficial, not just ceremonial.
• Businesses might increase sales volume even with lower prices because more people would be able to purchase goods.
• More people can afford food, clothing, and services on the holiday
• Businesses may experience higher customer traffic
• It could become a national tradition similar to big sales days in other countries
