Agradaa Released After 8 Months as High Court Reduces 15-Year Sentence

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has been officially released by the Nsawam Medium Security Prison after serving eight months of her initial 15-year custodial sentence following a successful appeal.

Agradaa, a former fetish priestess-turned evangelist, was originally sentenced on July 3, 2025, after being convicted of defrauding by false pretences.

However, the Amasaman High Court set aside the 15-year term, describing it as “unusually harsh and excessive,” and substituted it with a fresh sentence.

Presiding judge Solomon Oppong-Twumasi imposed a 12-calendar-month custodial sentence in hard labour, to take effect from July 3, 2025 – the date of her conviction.

The court noted that the victims in the case were only two in number and that the amount involved was One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,000.00). It further observed that there is no statutorily defined minimum sentence of imprisonment for the offence.

“Considering all the circumstances of the case together, I came to the irresistible conclusion that the sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment in hard labour imposed on the Appellant was indeed unusually harsh and excessive,” the judgment read in part.

The court also ordered the refund of the GH¢1,000.00 to the victims.

Following her release, Nana Agradaa has reunited with her family.
