Bodo/Glimt continued their incredible European run, adding Italian giants Inter Milan to their growing list of high-profile victories and moving tantalizingly close to a spot in the Champions League Round of 16. Despite being in their off-season back home in Norway, Bodo demonstrated remarkable power in the second half, building on recent wins against Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
The match, played on Bodo’s artificial pitch, saw the Norwegian side take the lead after just 20 minutes. Sondre Fet expertly converted a backheel pass from Kapser Waarts Hogh, putting Bodo ahead. Inter, who lead Serie A by a comfortable margin and have been recent Champions League finalists, tried to respond. Former Manchester United player Matteo Darmian hit the post, and Nicolo Barella’s shot was saved by Bodo goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.
Inter’s persistence paid off when Francesco Pio Esposito capitalized on a blocked header from Carlos Augusto, turning and firing home the equalizer. The three-time Champions League winners were then denied by the woodwork again as Lautaro Martinez struck the post, and Yann Sommer brilliantly tipped a powerful shot from Hogh over the bar.
However, Inter failed to heed the warning signs. Bodo/Glimt surged back into the lead in the 61st minute with a swift counter-attack. Hogh set up Jens Petter Hauge on the left, who unleashed a stunning left-footed strike into the top corner. Inter were clearly rattled, and Bodo capitalized immediately, scoring a third just minutes later. Ole Didrik Blomberg squared the ball for Hogh, who comfortably tapped it into the net, sealing a memorable victory.
