The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has confirmed it has seized and is administering a portfolio of high-value properties and cash connected to the ongoing criminal prosecution of former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine others. Dr Abdul-Hamid had earlier in November, 2025, denied claims that the OSP seized any of his properties in connection with investigations into his tenure.
However, according to the OSP’s 2025 Half-Yearly Report, disclosed on January 29, the assets are held as exhibits in the case The Republic v. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid & Nine Others, which is before the Criminal High Court in Accra.
Among the seized items are multiple fuel stations in Accra, parcels of land in Tamale, Adenta, Haatso and Kumasi, high-end residential properties in prime Accra neighbourhoods and nearly GH¢952,000 in cash.
The agency has also frozen assets and logistics vehicles as part of the probe, which involves allegations of large-scale extortion, abuse of public office and money laundering estimated at more than GH¢291 million and over US$330,000.
Charges against Abdul-Hamid and co-accused were increased from 25 to 54 counts in late 2025, and the matter continues in court. Previous reports noted a dispute between the OSP and the former NPA boss’s legal team, which denied that any assets linked to him have been seized.
