The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully brought a commercial fire under control at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, involved three shops situated on the ground floor of a one-storey building. Firefighters from the Madina and Legon fire stations responded jointly to the emergency, ensuring the blaze was contained in under 45 minutes. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

According to GNFS, the distress call was received at 4:41pm, with personnel from the Madina Fire Station arriving at the scene just two minutes later. The fire was brought under control by 5:00pm and completely extinguished at approximately 5:25pm.

Preliminary assessments indicate that one shop and its contents were entirely destroyed, while two adjoining shops sustained partial damage. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is currently under investigation.
Fire officials credited the quick and professional response of personnel for averting what could have been a major disaster, noting that several nearby buildings were saved from being affected by the blaze.
