Your rant on Mahama’s commendation born out of “self-aggrandizement”- GPCL hits back at former MD

Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has hit back at former Managing Director, David Asante over his rant against commendation of the new management by President Mahama. The company has dismissed claims by Mr. Asante describing them as “unmeritorious and selfish” and aimed at “fueling his own self-aggrandizement.”

The statement, issued by GPCL’s Corporate Affairs Department, is on the back of Mr. Asante’s post on social media calling out President Mahama’s praise of the current administration’s efforts during his working visit to the company on January 8, 2026. The President had described the company as having “not a good brand previously… it was like sending someone to Siberia,”. The President commended  the Nana Kwasi Boatey Esq. led  management for its recent transformation.

GPCL in the statement clarified that the progress noted by the President cannot be credited solely to the former MD. The company pointed out that Asante inherited a fully functional offset printing setup, vehicles, and substantial cash from his predecessor, David Dzreke, which were used during his tenure. According to the statement Mr. Asante did not only fail to add on to the fleet of vehicles bequeathed to him but crashed his official Toyota Land Cruiser after failing to renew its insurance.

GPCL also challenged claims that Asante acquired modern equipment or established a branch in Kumasi for the first time, noting that the so-called new equipment was an older Heidelberg Offset Printer and that GPCL had branches in multiple cities prior to 1997.

The company further stated that the 24-hour production for the 2020 elections cited by Asante was done solely to meet Electoral Commission deadlines with significant overtime pay to staff, and that the 3,000% asset increase in 2023 was due to revaluation, not retooling.

GPCL emphasized that the current management has, within ten months, implemented a structured 24-hour system, purchased a new Toyota Land Cruiser, built a digital printing center, increased staff salaries by 40% as a result of prudence and transparency.

Again, GPCL in the statement refuted claim by Mr. Asante that debt owed the company by Parliament has been paid hence the enhanced financial standing. According to the statement Parliament is yet to honor any debt obligation contrary to the claim.

GPCL concluded by reaffirming its commitment to supporting President Mahama’s resetting agenda, insisting the company “will not be distracted by any further commentary from the former MD.”
