The Kade District Court in the Eastern Region has remanded five accused persons in connection with the assault of Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
The accused pleaded guilty on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. According to court records, the victim was ambushed on the evening of October 5, 2025, while returning home from town. He was allegedly attacked by eight individuals, including current and former students, over claims that he enforced strict supervision during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A video of the assault, which circulated widely on social media, sparked public outrage and condemnation from teachers’ groups, some of whom threatened industrial action if the perpetrators were not punished.
Four of the accused, all above 18 years, were remanded into prison custody, while a 17-year-old juvenile was remanded into police custody. All five are expected to reappear before the court on January 20, 2026, with the juvenile’s case to be handled separately by a Juvenile Court.
Family members and some of the accused persons broke down in tears while being led away by police.
