Ghanaian football fans have been dealt a major setback after AS Monaco defender Mohamed Salisu sustained a serious knee injury, ruling him out of the 2026 World Cup. Salisu suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Monaco’s 3-1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais, with an expected recovery time of around nine months.
The Black Stars will feel the impact of his absence deeply, given Salisu’s key role in the team’s defense. His absence is particularly significant as Ghana prepares to face tough group stage opponents including England, Croatia, and Panama. Coach Otto Addo now faces the urgent task of finding a suitable replacement and adjusting tactical plans accordingly.
AS Monaco has pledged full support to Salisu throughout his recovery. The football community wishes him a speedy and successful rehabilitation.
