Lookman Strike Gives Super Eagles 2-1 Win Over Tanzania

Nigeria’s Super Eagles kicked off their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Tanzania in Group C at the Fez Stadium in Morocco.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 36th minute, heading home a precise cross from Alex Iwobi to give Nigeria the lead before halftime. Tanzania responded strongly early in the second half, with Charles M’Mombwa leveling the score in the 50th minute.

However, just two minutes later, Ademola Lookman restored Nigeria’s advantage with a stunning solo effort. He skillfully beat his marker before unleashing a powerful 25-yard shot that found the back of the net, marking his first goal for the Super Eagles and securing the win.

Despite Tanzania’s dominance in possession and goalkeeper Zuberi Foba’s impressive saves, Nigeria held on for the three points, placing them at the top of Group C. The Super Eagles will face Tunisia in their next group match, while Tanzania aims to bounce back against Uganda.

Match Summary:

  • Score: Nigeria 2-1 Tanzania
  • Goals: Semi Ajayi (36′), Charles M’Mombwa (50′), Ademola Lookman (52′)
  • Venue: Complexe Sportif de Fès, Fez, Morocco
