Real Estate Sector Calls on Government to Support Salaried Workers with Housing Funds

Accra — Stakeholders in Ghana’s real estate sector are urging the government to provide financial support for salaried workers aspiring to own homes. They argue that such assistance would significantly reduce the financial burdens faced by many potential homeowners.

Keegan Wang, Managing Director of Waylead Ghana, highlighted the challenges real estate developers face in securing loans to make homeownership more accessible. Speaking at Waylead Ghana’s recent open house event in Accra, Wang called on the government to establish housing funds aimed at supporting ordinary Ghanaians.

The event showcased Waylead’s Alphabet City development and other luxury properties, attracting prospective homeowners, investors, and industry players. Attendees were introduced to a variety of housing options ranging from studio apartments to four- and five-bedroom homes, designed to meet diverse income levels and lifestyle needs.

Wang explained that limited access to long-term financing remains a major hurdle for real estate development in Ghana. This often results in higher housing costs, putting homeownership out of reach for many working Ghanaians.

He expressed hope that in the future, government-backed housing funds could ease the burden, enabling more citizens to purchase homes through affordable financing options. He also encouraged Ghanaians to invest in real estate as a means of building wealth.

Renowned Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame, a homeowner within the Waylead development and brand ambassador for the company, shared his positive experience living in the community. He highlighted the comfort, security, and strong sense of community that the development offers to his family.
