A team of petroleum regulators and marketers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is in Ghana to study the operations of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
The focus is on the NPA’s remarkable successes in ensuring transparency, efficiency and safety in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.

Welcoming the delegation, the NPA Chief Executive, Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., said the choice for Ghana for the study “underscores a desire by the
team to learn a lot.”

He said the Authority had accumulated 20 years of experience in regulating Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
Mr. Tameklo said the NPA had introduced several policies and technological innovations to ensure effective regulation of the downstream petroleum sector.

He mentioned the Bulk Road Vehicle Tracking (BRV Tracking System and the Unified Petroleum Price Fund (UPPF) as examples to track the movements of fuel tankers and ensure uniform pricing of petroleum products across the country.
The NPA Boss said the DRC team could tap into the NPA experience and replicate the same in DRC.

“You do not have to reinvent the wheel. You can learn from the NPA experience. I believe that you will take much time so that your visit will be
worthwhile”, he urged the delegation.

Mr. Tameklo said the downstream petroleum sector contributes eight to nine per cent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) as it services the aviation, telecommunication and other sectors of the economy.

“It is a pillar of the entire economy”, he stressed.
In his response, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Jacque Mayinga, said the team is ready to study from the NPA to improve the downstream petroleum regulation and operations in DRC.
