You gave my comments on Prof. Naana Jane your own interpretations- Haruna Iddrisu

Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has acknowledged various interpretations given his comments on vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang assuming the reigns of leadership of the  country as President. The Tamale South during a visit by the vice President to his ministry prayed for long life and good health for her to one day become President.

“I pray God grants you long life and good health so that you may one day be elevated to become the first female President” Haruna stated.

The comments have been given different interpretations by political analysts and commentators especially given how the NDC’s internal contest for Mahama’s successor is shaping up. There were some who felt Haruna Iddrisu is seeking to partner the Vice President as a running mate into the 2028 elections. There were however others who described Mr. Iddrisu’s comments as a masterstroke to douse the flame sparked by the National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s “Thank you tour” which had been flagged as a subtle campaign to replace Mahama as well as moves by some individuals lacing boots for the contest barely a year into the Mahama administration.

However speaking at the Ghana Teacher Prize 2025 ceremony in Ho, Haruna Iddrisu disclosed he expected the different meaning read into his comments. According him, Vice Presidents are capable of becoming a president per the dictates of the office.

“Many of you gave my last comment about the Vice President your own interpretation. Yes, I wanted an interpretation. The Vice President is, irrebuttably, a presumption that she can assume the high office of President.” He stated
