ORAL: Fifi Kwetey blasts NDC over alleged backroom deals

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has alleged that some members of the party are secretly striking deals with some former appointees of the Nana Addo administration who are standing trial for various crimes to have their prosecutions dropped.
His comments come in the wake of the party’s renewed commitment to recover proceeds of corruption through its Operation Recover All Loots initiative and prosecute persons found culpable.

Speaking at the 5th Annual General Conference of NDC Lawyers, Mr. Kwetey claimed there are attempts within the party to undermine the fight against corruption.
“We are picking signals that, despite public pressure for justice to be done and punishment to be exacted, some among us are busy cutting deals with people who are supposed to be prosecuted. Some are becoming conduits for these deals, and pressure is being brought to bear on those who are expected to do the right thing,” he said.

The NDC chief scribe urged the Attorney-General’s office to remain resolute in the fight against corruption, stressing that dishonesty in public office has stifled Ghana’s development.
“I’m not mentioning names — the time will come when we may have to. Some know themselves. Think again, because this victory was achieved largely because Ghanaians wanted the right things done, not for deals to be cut. It won’t happen,” Mr. Kwetey warned.
