Gumgumm LBG Condemns Brutal Attack and Murder of Bongo NHIA District Coordinator

Leadership and members of Gumgumm LBG, a civil society group encompassing all ethnic groups in the Kusaug traditional area, have strongly and unequivocally condemned the horrific shooting, killing, and burning of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority and the group’s National Youth Coordinator.

The late Mohammed Seidu Akugri was tragically attacked and murdered in Nangodi while traveling from Bolgatanga to Bawku on Monday 19th May 2025. In a statement Gumgumm described the late Akugri as a dedicated advocate for peace and unity, a champion for collectivism and peaceful coexistence within Kusaug.

The group also in the statement signed by National President Dr. Joseph Ayembilla, Gumgumm LBG denounced the ongoing “acts of violence and lawlessness plaguing the Upper East and North East regions of Ghana. Such criminal acts undermine the safety and stability of our communities.”

The group also extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and urge all parties to refrain from further violence.

“We encourage continued trust in the government and the ongoing mediation efforts to restore peace.”

The group called on government to beef up security in the regions impacted by the Bawku conflict.

“Additionally, we call on the government to prioritize and reinforce security measures in these regions as a matter of urgency.”
