The Government of Ghana has assured workers and stakeholders that the planned takeover of the Damang Mine will not result in job losses, as efforts intensify to ensure a smooth and stable transition.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, gave the assurance during a working visit to the mine on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. He stated that all existing employment contracts would be fully honoured under the new arrangement.
According to the Minister, the government has put in place measures to prevent any disruptions or unrest among workers during the transition process. He emphasized that safeguarding jobs and maintaining operational continuity remain top priorities.
“This assurance is coming from John Dramani Mahama. His focus is on the people who work here. Those who have families need to be protected,” the Minister said. “We are working to ensure an orderly transition that guarantees safety, stability, and continuity of operations.”
The visit formed part of a broader inspection led by Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources, aimed at assessing preparedness ahead of the takeover.
The Damang Mine is currently operated by Gold Fields, whose lease is set to expire on April 18, 2026. Government officials are expected to determine the next phase of operations, including decisions on future ownership or lease arrangements.
Authorities say the transition process will prioritize the welfare of workers while ensuring that mining activities continue without interruption.
