Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on the current government to prioritize the completion and operationalization of all stalled Agenda 111 hospitals, a flagship initiative launched during his administration to construct 111 hospitals nationwide.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Kyebi Government Hospital over the weekend, Akufo-Addo emphasized that healthcare should not be politicized and highlighted the importance of continuity in health projects. “Not every project was completed during our term, but Agenda 111 must be continued. Continuity, not disruption, is how health systems succeed,” he said.
The Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa State, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, echoed these concerns, stressing the urgent need to modernize the 100-year-old hospital. He pointed out the lack of essential facilities, including scan machines and quality laboratories, which hampers the delivery of quality care.
Dr. Isaac Adu-Opoku Antwi, Medical Superintendent of Kyebi Government Hospital, revealed additional challenges, including children sharing wards with pregnant women. He called for the construction of a maternity block, children’s block, physiotherapy unit, and staff accommodation to improve healthcare delivery.
Completion of Agenda 111 hospitals, Akufo-Addo said, will significantly enhance access to healthcare across Ghana and improve patient outcomes nationwide.
