A devastating fire has completely destroyed the Ajumako Ocheso Police Station in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region, reducing the entire building to rubble.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke and flames in broad daylight, which locals attempted to contain, but the fire quickly engulfed the structure beyond control. Firefighters from the district, led by DO2 Kingsley Yeboah, battled the blaze for about three hours due to its intensity.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, as on-duty officers safely evacuated the premises. However, personal belongings and office materials were completely destroyed.
Speaking to the media, District Fire Officer DO2 Kingsley Yeboah said a power outage, possibly a “light-off” surge, is the suspected cause of the fire. He emphasized the importance of fire extinguishers in public institutions for early intervention.
Police from both the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District and the Central Region Command visited the scene but are yet to release official findings.
Authorities have deemed the building irreparable and called for the construction of a new station to restore police operations and services in the area.
