Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has warned newly sworn-in Ayawaso East MP, Mohammed Baba Jamal, that he will personally hold him accountable if he fails to serve his constituents as promised. Speaking during the brief swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Bagbin emphasized that he would campaign against the MP should he neglect his duties.
During the ceremony, the Speaker also revealed that a Private Members Bill has been submitted to amend the Criminal and Other Offences Act to criminalize unethical conduct by politicians during party primaries, including vote-buying.
Deputy Minority Chief Whip Habib Iddrissu reminded Baba Jamal that within the NDC, his only ally is party chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, referencing tensions from the Ayawaso East primaries, where some party members called for annulment of the results.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga expressed optimism, noting that Baba Jamal’s experience will be a valuable addition to Parliament and enhance the legislative process.
