GPL: Hearts of Oak Secure Narrow 1-0 Victory Over Samartex 1996 at Home

Hearts of Oak claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Samartex 1996 at the University of Ghana Stadium, moving up to second place in the Ghana Premier League with 28 points. They are now level on points with league leaders Aduana Stars, who have played one game fewer.

The only goal of the match came early in the 6th minute, courtesy of a Samartex error. Mawuli Wayo’s sharp play won possession and set up Hamza Issah, who calmly finished to give Hearts the lead. Despite several attempts from Samartex to find an equalizer, Hearts goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi stood firm with some crucial saves.

Although Hearts dominated possession throughout the game, they struggled to capitalize on additional chances, with opportunities missed by George Paaku and Theophilus Collison. Samartex mounted late pressure, but Hearts’ defense held strong to secure the vital three points.

“Samartex’s early mistake changed the game,” said Samartex head coach Christopher Ennin. “We created chances but couldn’t convert them.”

Hearts of Oak now turn their attention to their next challenge against Medeama SC as they look to build on this important victory.
