11 children injured after tipper truck crashes into stationary school bus on Accra Mall–Dzorwulu highway

Eleven children, aged between three and 10 years, were injured after a tipper truck crashed into a stationary school bus on the Accra Mall–Dzorwulu highway on Thursday, July 30.

Initial reports suggested the children were returning from an excursion. However, preliminary investigations have established that they were travelling from Ashaiman to Accra at the time of the crash.

According to preliminary findings, the tipper truck driver allegedly attempted a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre, lost control and slammed into the stationary Sprinter bus carrying the children.

Emergency responders and bystanders rushed to the scene to rescue the victims, who were transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.

All 11 children survived the crash, although some remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital and the Police Hospital.

Medical teams at both hospitals are working to stabilise the injured children as investigations continue into the cause of the accident.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as inquiries progress.
