Heavy rains that hit Accra from Sunday night into Monday morning have caused flooding in several parts of the capital, disrupting traffic flow and leaving commuters stranded.
Several major roads and low-lying communities were submerged, with motorists struggling to navigate flooded routes during the morning rush hour.
Affected areas include parts of the N1 Highway, Apenkwa towards Tesano, the Accra–Kasoa stretch, Weija, Mallam, Achimota, Spintex, Atomic in Madina, Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction, and sections of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
Some residents and business owners in flood-prone areas were also forced to move their belongings to safer locations as floodwaters entered homes and shops.
Road users have been advised to exercise caution and avoid driving through flooded areas, while emergency authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage.
The recurring flooding in Accra has often been linked to inadequate drainage systems, indiscriminate waste disposal, and rapid urban development.
