Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has denied allegations that she was armed or fired a gun during the shooting incident at a property linked to her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, in Kwabenya.
“I don’t own a gun, I didn’t shoot a gun and I will never shoot a gun,” the former legislator said in a private interaction with journalists while receiving treatment after the incident.
Her comments follow claims and counterclaims surrounding the violent confrontation on June 21, 2026, which occurred at the residence of her younger brother amid a leadership dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission.
Adwoa Safo insisted that she went to the property alone and without a security escort, explaining that her visit was purely a family matter and not intended to provoke any confrontation.
She also rejected reports that she drove into the gate of the property before the shooting, challenging those claims and stating that any damage to her vehicle was linked to gunfire.
The former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister expressed concern over what she described as false narratives about her role in the incident, particularly allegations that she was carrying a firearm.
The Kristo Asafo Mission has, however, disputed claims that Adwoa Safo was shot, presenting a different account of events and alleging that her vehicle damaged the entrance gates of the property after a church-related gathering.
Police have since arrested Israel Safo and other suspects in connection with the incident. Authorities say firearms, ammunition and loaded magazines were retrieved during investigations, with the accused persons facing charges including unlawful possession of weapons and causing unlawful damage.
The nine accused persons have been granted bail, while investigations and court proceedings continue.
