Ghana’s Parliament has congratulated the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, following her election as Vice President of the **Pan-African Parliament>, with Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin directing the Clerk to Parliament to begin processes to actualise the privileges attached to her new continental office.
The directive came after Speaker Bagbin read a formal communication from the President of the Pan-African Parliament on the floor of the House, officially informing Ghana’s Parliament of Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ election to the high-ranking position.
The letter, dated May 1, 2026, conveyed the congratulations of PAP President Fatih Bothbeek to the Speaker, the Government and people of Ghana, while expressing appreciation for the support extended to Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings by Ghana’s parliamentary delegation.
According to the communication, the Klottey Korle legislator’s election carries significant continental recognition, granting her ministerial status under African Union protocols governing the Pan-African Parliament.
The PAP President noted that Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings now “enjoys ministerial status not only in the host country South Africa but also across the African continent,” a distinction that comes with a number of official privileges and support services.
Among the benefits outlined in the letter are an official vehicle, VIP protection, state protocol services, financial support, an official office and support staff to facilitate the execution of her duties as Vice President of the continental legislative body.
Following the reading of the communication, Speaker Bagbin directed the Clerk to Parliament to liaise with the Pan-African Parliament Secretariat to obtain the details of the requirements and ensure that the necessary arrangements are made.
“Honourable Members, I direct the Clerk to get in touch with the Pan-African Parliament to get the details of these requirements and to proceed to ensure that they are provided to the Vice President,” the Speaker said.
He emphasised that the position held by Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings is not merely a national assignment but one that serves the broader interests of the African continent.
“On your behalf, I want to congratulate her. Congratulations, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings,” he added.
Speaker Bagbin also commended Ghana’s delegation to the Pan-African Parliament for what he described as an exceptional performance that has enhanced the country’s standing within the continental institution.
He announced that Ghanaian parliamentarians secured five key positions during the recent PAP elections and committee assignments.
In addition to Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ election as Vice President, Bernard Ahiafor was elected a member of the Rules Committee, while Frank Annoh-Dompreh emerged Chairman of the Health Committee after switching from the Environment, Science and Technology Committee.
Similarly, Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwame Dafeamekpor secured a seat on the Finance Committee, while Collins Dauda was elected a member of the Trade Committee.
Speaker Bagbin said the achievements reflected the quality and influence of Ghana’s representation at the Pan-African Parliament.
“The delegation excelled in the deliberations of the Pan-African Parliament. It is important that we convey our greatest congratulations to the delegation and encourage others to follow this good example,” he stated.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ election to the PAP vice presidency marks one of the highest leadership positions occupied by a Ghanaian lawmaker within the African Union’s legislative framework and further strengthens Ghana’s voice in continental governance, integration and parliamentary diplomacy.
