Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has confirmed that all six generation units at the Akosombo Hydroelectric Power Plant are now fully operational, marking a major milestone in efforts to stabilise Ghana’s power supply.
The announcement follows the successful commissioning of the plant’s fifth generating unit, which has added significant capacity to the national grid amid rising electricity demand.
According to the Minister, the restoration of all six units comes after intensive repair and recovery efforts following recent disruptions that affected power supply in several parts of the country.
In an update on Friday, May 1, Dr Jinapor said the national grid has now been fully stabilised, crediting engineers, technicians, and emergency response teams for their swift and coordinated response under demanding conditions.
He noted that the combined output from all six units will ease pressure on the system, improve reliability, and strengthen Ghana’s energy security.
The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to maintaining a resilient and dependable power sector to support economic growth and national development.
