Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor, has reassured citizens that the government is actively addressing power cuts affecting some parts of the country.
While describing the outages as isolated, Dr. Jinapor emphasized the urgency of tackling the underlying issues. On April 22, 2026, he met with ECG, NEDCo, and other key power sector stakeholders to review the state of the national electricity system and the government’s work plan for resolving disruptions.
The discussions highlighted challenges such as transformer overloads and aging infrastructure, which have increasingly strained service delivery as electricity demand rises due to urbanization and economic growth.
In a statement on Facebook following the engagement, Dr. Jinapor said, “The Mahama-led administration is making significant investments to modernize and expand this infrastructure, strengthen capacity, and improve overall system reliability. I have charged ECG and NEDCo to intensify their efforts and ensure a rapid, coordinated, and effective response to all reported outages. Ghanaians deserve timely service and clear communication, and we expect nothing less.”
He concluded by assuring the public that the government is working diligently to resolve pockets of outages and improve the reliability of electricity supply nationwide.
