The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three foreign nationals in Ghana as investigations continue into a 46.7-kilogramme cocaine consignment intercepted at an airport in Lebanon.
The suspects, identified as Syrian, Tunisian, and Lebanese nationals, were arrested on Tuesday, November 3, following intelligence received from Lebanese law enforcement agencies.
According to sources, the arrests reportedly took place at different locations in Accra, with two suspects apprehended earlier in the day and the third arrested around 5 p.m.
The investigation centers on a cocaine shipment allegedly transported from Accra to Beirut, where Lebanese authorities intercepted it on October 31.
A Syrian passenger arriving at Rafic Hariri International Airport from Ghana was arrested after customs officials discovered 40 packages of cocaine concealed in his luggage. The consignment weighed 46.7 kilogrammes.
NACOC says the arrests are linked to a joint operation with Lebanese authorities designed to trace the shipment beyond the initial interception and identify individuals involved at different stages of the suspected trafficking operation.
The three suspects are being investigated over their alleged connections to the consignment, while efforts continue to identify other members of the network.
The commission has described the operation as a controlled-delivery exercise intended not only to intercept the drugs but also to facilitate the identification and arrest of suspected accomplices.
