President John Dramani Mahama has said he welcomes criticism of his administration, describing public feedback as an important tool for improving governance and strengthening his leadership.
He said he does not take offence at criticisms directed at his government, regardless of the political affiliations of those expressing them, stressing that listening to divergent views helps him identify shortcomings and take corrective action.
The President made the remarks during an engagement with members of the Ghanaian community in Moscow, Russia, where he highlighted the role of social media in providing his administration with real-time information about developments and challenges across the country.
“I don’t mind if people tell me that I’m leading the country in the wrong direction. I’m trying to do my best. Criticism helps me to do better. So when people criticize me and say this is not right, I am not offended,” he said.
President Mahama disclosed that he actively follows conversations on social media platforms, including TikTok, and sometimes draws the attention of ministers to complaints and concerns raised by citizens.
He explained that such feedback provides an opportunity to demand explanations from government officials and seek solutions to problems identified in their respective sectors.
“Sometimes I go on the media and I see something, and I call the minister and I say, ‘Hey, my friend, what is happening in your sector?’” he recounted.
Assuring Ghanaians that their online contributions do not go unnoticed, he said, “So all your TikToks and things, don’t think I don’t see them. I see them.”
He described the growing influence of digital and social media as an advantage for governance, noting that it enables government to receive information directly from citizens and respond to emerging challenges more promptly.
“The new media is an advantage because it gives us information in real time,” he added.
