Four men have been remanded by the Dambai Circuit Court following violent disturbances at Worawora in the Oti Region, where tensions surrounding the Akwantutenten Festival led to the burning of vehicle tyres.
The accused are Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, 55, Prince Asante, 27, Daniel Wiafe, 20, and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22.
The Oti Regional Police Command said the court remanded the four on October 27, 2026, in connection with the incident at Dwabrem, Worawora, on October 24.
They are to reappear before the court on November 17.
According to the police, the incident involved the burning of vehicle tyres and other acts of violence amid tensions over the start of rites for the Akwantutenten Festival.
The disagreement reportedly involved claims that a High Court injunction had been obtained to prevent the celebration from proceeding.
Police personnel who responded to the scene extinguished the fire and restored order.
The arrests come as authorities seek to contain tensions surrounding a chieftaincy dispute linked to the festival.
On October 26, the Oti Regional Security Council met representatives of the disputing families and directed them to pursue their grievances through the appropriate courts and Houses of Chiefs.
REGSEC emphasised that the dispute must be resolved through lawful means and that those arrested over the disturbances must be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Oti Regional Police Command has appealed to all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and respect legal processes in the interest of peace and security in Worawora.
