‘Unavailable’ Tourism Authority CEO making it difficult to carry out my duties effectively– Abeiku Santana writes to minister

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana, has complained to the Tourism Minister about difficulties securing meetings with the Authority’s CEO, Maame Efua Houadjeto.

In a letter to the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, dated October 22, 2026, Mr. Aggrey called for intervention to address what he considers a persistent communication challenge between his office and the CEO.

The Deputy CEO in charge of Marketing and Special Duties said the difficulty in obtaining timely consultations was affecting work that required guidance, approvals, and decisions, particularly in domestic tourism promotion, special events, and marketing.

According to him, attempts to arrange meetings through the CEO’s administrative staff have repeatedly been unsuccessful.

“On several occasions, I have had to request meetings through the CEO’s secretary or personal assistant, only to be informed that she is unavailable,” he stated in the letter.

Mr. Aggrey warned that the situation had consequences for the Authority’s day-to-day operations, including engagements with stakeholders and the execution of assigned activities.

“This situation sometimes causes delays in operations, stakeholder engagements, and the implementation of key assignments,” he wrote.

While acknowledging the demands associated with the CEO’s office, he maintained that a more reliable system for consultation was necessary to enable him to perform his functions effectively.

Emphasizing that his concerns were not motivated by a personal grievance, Mr. Aggrey said addressing the situation would serve the broader interests of the institution.

“My intention is not to make a personal complaint but to highlight a communication gap that needs to be addressed in the interest of effective management and institutional efficiency,” he said.

To resolve the matter, the Deputy CEO has asked Ms. Gomashie to facilitate arrangements that would allow the two offices to communicate and consult more effectively, especially when official matters require urgent attention.

“I therefore respectfully seek your intervention, with the knowledge of the Board Chairperson, to help establish a more effective communication and consultation arrangement between the CEO and my office, especially on urgent official matters,” he stated.

Despite his concerns, Mr. Aggrey reiterated his commitment to working with the CEO and the Authority’s management to improve institutional performance.

“I remain committed to working professionally with the CEO and the entire management team to achieve the Ministry’s objectives and strengthen the performance of the Ghana Tourism Authority,” he said.
