The Ghana Police Service has interdicted seven police officers over an alleged extortion incident involving a member of the public in Accra.
The officers, who were members of a patrol team, are alleged to have demanded money from the victim and compelled him to withdraw the funds from an ATM for them.
The Police announced the interdiction in a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The affected officers are Inspector Courage Boateng, General Sergeant Stephen Addo, General Corporal Moses Anyarvi, General Corporal Prosper Adiabo, General Lance Corporal Samuel Anokye, General Constable Henrietta Coleman and General Constable Bernard Amoako.
The Service said the interdiction was necessary to allow its Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct investigations into the allegations.
“The interdiction is to make way for ongoing investigation by the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).”
The move comes as the Police investigate allegations of misconduct against the seven officers.
The Service did not disclose the amount allegedly demanded or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It has, however, assured the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated and that any further action will be based on the findings.
“The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigations.”
The seven officers will remain interdicted while the investigation by the PPSB proceeds.
