Police in the Central North Region have rescued a 30-year-old man who was allegedly kidnapped and severely tortured over a financial dispute.
The victim, Bismarck Amo, was rescued during an intelligence-led operation after his family reportedly paid 19,500 cedis in ransom.
Police say the incident began on September 3, after Mr Amo allegedly defrauded one of the suspects, Mavis Badu Acheampong, of an unspecified amount of money.
She allegedly connived with her husband, a senior military officer currently outside the country, and lured Mr Amo from Assin Fosu to Kumasi.
Police say he was then allegedly kidnapped and taken to a private residence, where he was held and tortured for five days.
The suspects allegedly filmed the abuse and sent the footage to his family while demanding an additional 30,500 cedis.
Four suspects, including two teachers, a security guard and an electrician, have been arrested and are being processed for court.
Police tactical teams intercepted the suspects on September 11 as they allegedly attempted to move the victim to another location.
Mr Amo was found partially unconscious and covered in blood, with severe bruises across his body.
He was rushed to a medical facility where he remains under treatment and police escort.
The police say a manhunt is ongoing for the senior military officer allegedly linked to the incident and other accomplices who remain at large.
